The photo on the left are lanterns, using recycled materials, that were made for our 2007 festival by local children and teachers. The photo on the right shows how creativity has no bounds at Victoria's famous Iluminaria!
The artists at work Master carver Stan Greene (left) & Reynold Collins
You may be wondering what is inside the BIG Steel Box that is located at the Thunderbird Memorial Square - in Civic Plaza just behind City Hall.
Salish artist, Stan Greene, and Tsimshian artist, Reynold Collins, have been commissioned to carve a Welcome Figure by the Abbotsford Spirit of BC Committee. Funding for this Legacy Project for the community was generously provided by Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts—BC 150 Secretariat. The Welcome Figure will be gifted to the City to be on display at the new Abbotsford Cultural Centre. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the artists and their artistic traditions.
You can come down to the site and watch the artists at work carving weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am - 3pm through the third week in August.
